Musical Mondays--Alice Smith
Hello everyone, welcome to Musical Mondays. I want to introduce you to another artist from Washington DC, Alice Smith. Some of you may know of her, some may not; she is a New York City-based singer with a unique amalgamated style, which includes sounds of rock, blues, jazz, r&b, and soul. Smith released her first album, For Lovers, Dreamers & Me in 2006 and was recognized by Rolling Stones magazine, which named her one of the 10 Artists to Watch in 2006. The magazine also compared her to the likes of Norah Jones and Alicia Keys. Her popular song "Dream" has been featured in season five of Showtime’s The L Word series and season four of Entourage. Along with that success, Alice was nominated for a Grammy award under the Best Urban/Alternative category.
Just as Norah and Alicia have distinct styles and voices, Alice fits right in with them. Her style is new, fresh, unique, carefree and infectious, which makes her an artist to keep an eye on. Check out the playlist I’ve put together and keep watch for this young artist.
