Word of the Day--"pleonasm"

Today's W.O.D. is PLEONASM

Parts of Speech:
noun

Definition:
1. the use of more words than necessary to denote mere sense: redundancy

Example:
I ate a tuna fish sandwich. (I was pretty sure tuna was a type of fish.)

or

With every purchase you will receive a free gift. (A "gift" is free, I thought?)

Since I have started blogging I have become more aware pleonasm; I make the effort to edit it out of each post. However I don't think I will even attempt to change the phrase tuna fish, I've been saying that my whole life.
